This website is run by The Sixth Form College Colchester. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is
We've purchased a new website (Jan '24) with a clear intention to dramatically improve the accessibility of our college website. We launched early February '24 and have worked hard in testing for areas where accessibility may still be a concern. We test regularly and are aware that this website is only partially accessible in a few areas. These are detailed in the "compliance status" section below.

We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible. We are working with our web development company to address the following:
There are a small number of areas where the links and controls do not have an accessible name when read by a screen reader. This includes the rather repetitive use of "read more" buttons on the news section of our homepage.
There are a small number of areas where our scanning software highlights issues regarding colour contrast that does not meet accessibility requirements.
We are working with our commercial website provider to resolve any outstanding issues and they have committed to completion of this process by end of October '24. Further information regarding outstanding accessibility issues, including the specific guidelines broken, is given in the pdf document that can be downloaded on this page
We are also aware that, on a site where pdf documents and photographs are regularly uploaded, it is important to have accessibility protocols in place. We regularly scan our website for accessibility issues using appropriate commercial software and are vigilant in checking for issues. If you are aware that any of our documentation or images fail accessibility standards, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will rectify matters.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We purchased this website (launched Feb'24) with the specific aim of improving accessibility. We are working closely with our commercial website provider to address any remaining issues, as detailed above, and they have advised us that all issues will be resolved by Oct '24.
