Work With Us

We are delighted to welcome you to The Sixth Form College, Colchester where young people of all abilities are encouraged to set their aims high, to develop confidence in themselves, aspire and achieve.

We are immensely proud of our college, where we provide prestigious, full time academic education for young people, combined with excellent pastoral and safeguarding care and an exceptional range of personal development opportunities and wider activities. We aim to enhance our students’ future progression opportunities and encourage them to flourish, preparing them for the rapidly changing global workplace and for life as active citizens in modern Britain.

The College has served the young people of the Colchester Area for some 36 years, has an impressive record of success and is a destination of choice in the area, with approximately 3250 students currently engaged on full-time academic A Level/ level 3 programmes of study, plus a small level 2 cohort.

If you put students at the heart of all your decisions, then this warm, friendly and nurturing college could be the place for you. If you want to champion equality, diversity and inclusivity and can demonstrate commitment and ability to fostering the learning and success of young people, then we would like to hear from you.

We are rated as "outstanding" (Ofsted, 2024), with a desire to continue at this level.  Our story is not complete, and we are looking for hardworking, enthusiastic colleagues of the utmost integrity to join us and continue our incredible journey.

College Community

We have a strong sense of community, and this is one of the first things you will hear when you speak to any member of staff or student. Our students retain very positive memories of the college,  so much so that many return to us later in life: to visit former teachers, to speak to and advise our students, or, in many cases, as a member of staff!

We are a large team, with hundreds of us working, and often living, in a busy community at the heart of the city. There's activities to join and lots to get involved in, but, on a more informal level, you'll also find many colleagues happy to extend their team meeting into something more relaxing in the many pubs, bars or restaurants of Colchester at the end of a busy week.

Being part of a large vibrant student community can also, of course, provide many benefits for staff: there is, for example, a huge additional studies programme offering students something like a hundred extra courses in a huge range of sporting and creative areas. This brings a unique atmosphere to the college; show the slightest bit of interest and you may find yourself, for example, taking part in a fashion show, or a dance flash mob, or acting as a judge for the "Battle of the Bands" at the local arts centre!

Colchester Community

Colchester is an historic and very rapidly growing city located in the centre of North East Essex and built on the site of the Roman settlement of Camulodunum. The city has a vibrant mixture of historic, artistic and cultural sites and institutions, alongside busy shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as good local schools and strong transport links to London, which is only 52 miles away (45 minutes by train); alternatively Colchester is only 15 miles from Ipswich, and less than 25 miles from Chelmsford.  The surrounding area is an appealing mixture of estuaries, open countryside (including the famous "Constable Country"), long-established village and small town communities, and a number of coastal towns and holiday resorts.

Leadership opportunities and succession planning are important to us; we firmly believe in not only growing our own leaders but ensuring that all staff have the support and CPD they need to grow within their roles and their career paths.
